Luke O’Brien Bio:
Luke O’Brien is the author of the recent
Atlantic piece titled “The Making of an American Nazi” ( in the Dec. 2017 issue). The article is a harrowing description of how a not-all-that-atypical suburban kid ends up becoming a far-right leader. O’Brien has studied and written about extremism in America for several years, including the unmasking of a prominent neo-nazi “troll,” Rickey Vaughn (who is actually named Douglass Mackey).
His work has also appeared in Fortune, Details, Rolling Stone, Fast Company, The New York Times, Boston Magazine, The Washington Post Magazine and Slate, among other publications. Luke wrote the first investigative magazine piece on the controversial founding of Facebook, has published notable magazine profiles of Tina Brown and Mike Bloomberg and has covered three World Cups. His stories have been anthologized in the Best Technology Writing and noted in the Best American Sports Writing.
