Sudan in 1990 (after genocide began in the south)

This is a 1990 Landsat TM mosaic for the country of Sudan during the genocide. The national border is shown in white. The mosaic is a false-color image displaying solar energy in the middle infrared, near infrared, and visible (green) parts of the spectrum as red, green, and blue. Green shade of the image depicts vegetation, blue is inland water, and red is the soil background. The yellowish-brown shade at the northern portion of the image depicts the desert.

Sudan in 2000 (after the genocide in the south)

This is a mosaic of MODIS satellite images for the country of Sudan after the genocide began. The national border is shown in white. The mosaic is a false-color image created from six MODIS surface reflectance tiles displaying solar energy in the middle infrared, near infrared, and visible (green) parts of the spectrum as red, green, and blue. The six MODIS tiles were acquired on 24 November 2000.
