English forces massacred 400-700 Pequot Indians, mostly women and children, at West Mystic, Connecticut, on May 26, 1637. The morning attack on the Pequot fort was depicted in “The Figure of the Indians Fort or Palizado in New England and the Mauer of the Destroying It by Captayne Underhill and Captayne Mason,” from John Underhill, News from America (London, 1638).
